Carl West is the CEO of MIDWEST GAP Enterprise, which is a ten-year-old publishing and promotional company based in Chicago. Carl has diversified his business to incorporate the billion-dollar business of hip-hop culture in America. MIDWEST GAP publishes The TRUTH magazine: Hip Hop Culture At its Best. The TRUTH highlights Chicago’s emerging hip-hop community with positive stories and attractive pictorials. MG produces The TRUTH Awards: Giving Respect To The Chicago Connect, which salutes the best and brightest Chicagoan in T.V., radio, music, sports, comedy and business. And the company also created The West – Side Story” an e newsletter focusing on politics and social issues effecting urban America distributed weekly through city-alert.com. Carl just launched his clothing logo line called CHI Brand label. This brand will represent Chicago and all who rock it. Hip Hop IMAGEMAKER is a monthly Q&A with someone who has been instrumental in delivering positive images within the culture of hip hop through fashion, film, television, radio, business or community service. TRUTH For Literacy is the not for profit arm of MIDWEST GAP, which is an after school mentor agency teaching over 50 at risk youth between the ages of 9 - 17 reading, writing and communication skills in partnership with the YWCA on the south side of Chicago. Carl contributes a weekly column to Citizen Newspaper Group, which reaches over 300,000 readers in five papers published and owned by William Garth, and Carl sits on the board of several civil, social and business organizations. Carl has several other projects in development, but he says his biggest and most rewarding project is his three-year-old daughter Karly, who serves as Vice President of the enterprise, and a future leader of hip-hop’s new school.
